Disguises and Danger Machado’s Secret Venezuela Escape

Disguises and Danger

María Corina Machado’s secret escape from Venezuela used disguises, boats, and a daring sea mission led by Grey Bull Rescue.

A Covert Plan Begins

A high-risk rescue mission helped Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado escape her country after months in hiding. The operation, led by US special forces veteran Bryan Stern and his team at Grey Bull Rescue, involved disguises, rough seas, and a race against time.

Operation ‘Golden Dynamite’

The plan, nicknamed Golden Dynamite, was activated after an earlier attempt to evacuate Machado failed. Grey Bull had already spent months preparing networks in Venezuela and nearby islands to be ready for sudden conflict or evacuation needs.
But this mission was different: Machado is one of the most recognized faces in Venezuela, making secrecy the biggest challenge.

Dangerous Sea Journey in Total Darkness

Machado was first transported from her hiding place to a small boat, and then moved to a larger vessel waiting offshore. The team sailed through 10-foot waves, freezing rain, and complete darkness. Stern said the sea conditions were harsh, but they used the rough weather to their advantage, reducing the chance of detection.

Throughout the trip, her face and digital footprint were disguised to avoid biometric tracking — a serious threat for high-profile targets.

A Formidable Passenger

Despite being cold and drenched, Machado never complained. Stern described her as “formidable,” focused only on reaching safety. Once they reached land, she was taken to a private plane that flew her to Oslo, where she arrived just before midnight to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Anonymous Helpers and Smart Deception

Stern revealed that many Venezuelans who assisted had no idea they were part of a major extraction mission. Grey Bull used deception tactics, keeping identities secret to protect those involved.

Not Funded by the US Government

The mission was funded by private donors, not the US government. Although Stern coordinated informally with intelligence and diplomatic networks, he said they never received official support.

A Hero’s Choice

Machado says she plans to return to Venezuela. Stern advised against it, reminding her of the danger — but acknowledged that her commitment to her people may drive her back regardless.
