The BBC has revealed the shortlist for the 2025 Sports Personality of the Year award. Fans can vote during the live show on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 18 December.
The event, hosted from MediaCityUK in Salford, will be presented by Gabby Logan, Alex Scott, and Clare Balding, celebrating a year of unforgettable sporting moments.
Meet the Contenders
Hannah Hampton – Football
Age: 25
Hampton, Chelsea goalkeeper and England star, earned global recognition by winning the Yashin Trophy. She played a key role in England’s European Championship victory, saving crucial penalties in both quarter-finals and the final. At club level, she contributed to Chelsea’s domestic treble and shared the WSL Golden Glove with 13 clean sheets.
Chloe Kelly – Football
Age: 27
Kelly turned a uncertain start to the year into a phenomenal summer, winning both the European Championship and the Champions League with Arsenal. Known for her clutch penalty in the Euro final, she also scored in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Kelly was named in the tournament team and finished fifth in the Women’s Ballon d’Or voting.
Ellie Kildunne – Rugby Union
Age: 26
Kildunne was pivotal in England’s Women’s Rugby World Cup triumph on home soil, scoring five tries. After missing the quarter-final with concussion, she returned to dominate in the semi-final and final. Earlier, she helped England secure the Six Nations Grand Slam and scored 14 tries for Harlequins.
Luke Littler – Darts
Age: 18
Littler became the youngest darts world champion at just 17, defeating Michael van Gerwen. Later, he won the World Matchplay and Grand Slam of Darts, claiming the PDC Triple Crown and climbing to world number one—the youngest ever to achieve this.
Rory McIlroy – Golf
Age: 36
McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam by winning the Masters, his first major since 2014. He also triumphed at the Ryder Cup, Players Championship, Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and Irish Open, securing his seventh Race to Dubai title.
Lando Norris – Formula 1
Age: 26
Norris claimed the F1 Drivers’ Championship in a thrilling 2025 season. Despite being behind teammate Oscar Piastri for most of the year, he surged in the final races, finishing just two points ahead of Max Verstappen to give McLaren its first drivers’ title since 2008.
