Mbappe Wins 2025 European Golden Shoe Award

Kylian Mbappe has wrapped up his debut season at Real Madrid with a major milestone — winning the European Golden Shoe for the first time.
The 26-year-old striker scored 31 goals in La Liga, earning 62 points under the competition’s scoring system. In Europe’s top five leagues — La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 — each league goal counts for two points.
A Standout Season in Spain
Mbappe made an instant impact at Real Madrid. He won the La Liga Golden Boot (Pichichi Trophy) and ended the season as Europe’s top scorer. In Real Madrid’s final game, he scored twice. That helped him overtake Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon, who had led the rankings before the weekend.
Final Standings for the Golden Shoe (2024–2025):
- Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) – 31 goals, 62 points
- Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting Lisbon) – 39 goals, 58.5 points
- Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 29 goals, 58 points
- Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona) – 27 goals, 54 points
- Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) – 26 goals, 52 points
How the Scoring Works
The Golden Shoe uses a weighted system. Goals in the top five European leagues are worth 2 points each. In the next 16 ranked leagues, goals are multiplied by 1.5. For all other leagues, each goal counts as 1 point. This ensures fairness by rewarding players in more competitive leagues.
Mbappe Joins Legends
Mbappe is now the third Real Madrid player to win the Golden Shoe. He follows Hugo Sanchez and Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s also the first French winner since Thierry Henry, who won in 2004 and 2005 while playing for Arsenal.
Despite not playing on the final day — he was seen in Monaco at the Formula One Grand Prix — Mbappe couldn’t be caught.
Other Top Contenders Mbappe
Mohamed Salah needed three goals in Liverpool’s final match but managed just one. Robert Lewandowski scored twice on Sunday to finish with 27 goals. He previously won the award with Bayern Munich and claimed the Pichichi last season. Harry Kane, who won last year’s Golden Shoe, finished fifth with 26 Bundesliga goals. Mateo Retegui of Atalanta led Serie A with 25 goals, placing sixth overall.
A Sign of More to Come?
Mbappe finished the season with 43 goals in all competitions. His form suggests Real Madrid may be entering a new era of dominance. With this award, he not only made history but also laid the groundwork for future success.
