Bellingham: Tuchel apologises for calling the England star’s on-field behaviour ‘repulsive’ and clarifies his comments were unintentional.
Bellingham grabbed headlines after England manager Thomas Tuchel apologised for calling his on-field behaviour “repulsive.” Tuchel said he chose the word unintentionally and regrets how it sounded.
The comment came in June after England lost 3-1 to Senegal, Tuchel’s first defeat as England manager. He praised Bellingham’s intensity and determination but noted that even his mother sometimes found the midfielder’s style “repulsive.”
Tuchel, 52, explained the remark followed a tough match and little sleep. He also spoke in his second language during a live interview. “I take full responsibility for the headlines and any upset caused,” he said.
Tuchel immediately contacted Bellingham to clarify the situation. The Real Madrid midfielder focuses on recovery after recent shoulder surgery. He will miss England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.
“Jude is concentrating on his rehabilitation, and we are preparing for the qualifiers,” Tuchel added.
