The much-anticipated AFC Asian Cup Qualifier between Bangladesh and Singapore will take place tonight (Tuesday) at 7 PM at Dhaka’s National Stadium. The match is especially drawing attention from Bangladeshi fans eager to see Hamza Chowdhury in action after his impressive debut against Bhutan.
Both teams are in Group C of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. Bangladesh drew against India in their opening match, while Singapore drew with Hong Kong. As a result, all four teams in the group currently stand on one point each, making tonight’s clash crucial for both sides.
Stadium Guidelines Issued by BFF
To ensure smooth operations and public safety, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has issued several important guidelines:
- Gate Opening: Stadium gates will open at 2 PM, five hours before kick-off.
- Prohibited Items: Fans should avoid bringing bags, bottles, or extra items to maintain safety and ensure a smooth security process.
- Ticket Policy: Only spectators with valid tickets will be allowed to enter. The BFF warns against ticket fraud or black-market sales and promises immediate legal action for any irregularities.
- Public Viewing: Fans without tickets can enjoy the match via large public screens set up across Dhaka.
- Traffic Arrangements: At Gate 3, two lanes will be allocated to manage crowds — Dainik Bangla and Rajuk lanes will help maintain order.
Security Strengthened After Bhutan Incident
Security has been significantly tightened after chaotic scenes during the Bangladesh-Bhutan match on June 4, where fans broke gates and invaded the pitch.
To prevent such incidents, the Bangladesh Police SWAT unit will be deployed both inside and around the stadium. SWAT rehearsed on Monday to prepare for match day, and BFF remains in constant contact with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
“We have inspected the gates with the match commissioner, and SWAT will conduct their exercises at the stadium,” said Golam Gaus, Chairman of the BFF Competition Committee.
Eid Holiday Festivities Planned
In a first for Bangladesh football, the BFF is embracing the festive spirit of Eid with music and dance performances starting 90 minutes before kick-off. However, spectators entering early — as early as 2 PM — should note that the BFF has not yet announced specific arrangements for food and beverage facilities inside the stadium.
Hamza’s Positive Mindset
Midfield star Hamza Chowdhury is looking forward to his second match in front of home fans. After an emotional debut and goal against Bhutan, Hamza is ready for a fresh challenge.
Reflecting on his first home match, Hamza said:
“It was one of the two biggest moments of my career. The support from fans outside and inside the stadium was incredible.”
He added that the team is motivated by their positive result against India:
“We gained confidence from the India match. We know we have a big opportunity on home soil. We are improving and will play aggressively to win, God willing.”
Singapore Ready for Battle
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Singapore defender Amirul Adli showed respect for the hosts:
“Bangladesh is a good team. We will play against them tomorrow. I hope the match will be enjoyable. We will try to play good football.”
Singapore will be looking to secure a vital win after their opening draw, just as Bangladesh hopes to claim full points and delight the home crowd.
