Amorim Admits Man Utd Underachieving Amid Criticism

Amorim Admits Man Utd

Amorim admits Manchester United are underachieving and shares his approach to handling criticism and young players at the club.

Struggling to Meet Expectations

United head into their Premier League clash against Bournemouth with hopes of staying in the top six for a second consecutive week—a milestone they haven’t achieved since the end of the 2023-24 season. Amorim acknowledges that, compared to Sir Alex Ferguson’s era, the standards at the club are much higher, making any dip in form heavily scrutinized.

Facing Criticism from Legends

Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes recently criticized Amorim, claiming his tactical system does not fit the club’s tradition of playing with wingers. Amorim responded calmly, stating:

“I think it’s normal. We are underachieving, and we should have more points this season. Not winning is the problem, not the criticism.”

Focusing on the Players’ Happiness

Amorim highlighted the challenge of managing a squad with some younger, inexperienced players. Injuries to key defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire mean 19- and 20-year-olds may be called into the first team, testing the squad depth.

Amorim also addressed midfielder Kobbie Mainoo’s desire for more playing time. While Mainoo had a loan deal opportunity last summer, Amorim is open to discussions but will make decisions based on what he believes is best for the team.

“I just want my players happy. I’m open to speak with any player about their goals,” Amorim added.

A Manager Under Pressure

While some sympathy exists due to a young and evolving squad, Amorim knows results matter most. His focus remains on improving performance, keeping players motivated, and ensuring Manchester United return to their traditional winning ways.
