Zuma Terrorism Trial Daughter Denies Charges in Durban Court

Zuma Terrorism Trial

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla denies terrorism charges in Durban court, claiming political bias. Protests linked to her father’s arrest caused $2.8bn in damage.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma, has pleaded not guilty to terrorism-related charges as her trial began in Durban. Meanwhile, the state accuses her of inciting unrest during the 2021 protests.

Allegations Linked to 2021 Protests

The charges relate to her social media posts made during deadly July 2021 protests. Consequently, these protests caused widespread looting, arson, and at least 300 deaths, with damages totaling around $2.8 billion.

Defense Claims Political Motivation

Her lawyer says the state’s case is weak. Additionally, Zuma-Sambudla claims the charges are politically motivated. She argues they target her father after he left the ANC and launched a new political party.

Family and Supporters Rally

Supporters of her political party, uMkhonto weSizwe, gathered outside the KwaZulu-Natal high court. Inside, Jacob Zuma and other party leaders attended the proceedings to show support.

Foundation Denounces Charges

The Jacob Zuma Foundation called the case an “abuse of power.” Furthermore, it described the trial as a systematic campaign of political and familial harassment against Zuma and his family.
