Susie Wiles disputes Vanity Fair’s claims on Trump, Vance, and Musk, defending her comments and the administration.
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has publicly challenged parts of a Vanity Fair article that painted a negative picture of the Trump administration. In the original report, Wiles was quoted describing Donald Trump as having an “alcoholic’s personality” and Vice President JD Vance as a longtime “conspiracy theorist.”
Wiles quickly pushed back on social media, claiming the magazine left out key context and framed the story to appear chaotic. She emphasized that Vanity Fair misrepresented her comments about the president and other officials.
Trump defended Wiles, calling her “fantastic” and suggested she may have been misled by the article. Wiles’ remarks also touched on her experience working with high-profile personalities, crediting her upbringing with an alcoholic father as preparation for managing Trump’s strong personality.
She also commented on JD Vance, noting his political evolution from critic to close ally, and remarked on tech billionaire Elon Musk’s controversial time at the Department of Government Efficiency. Wiles described Musk as unconventional but highly capable, particularly in pushing ambitious projects, despite her concerns over drastic cuts to USAID under his leadership.
The White House supported Wiles, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt praising her leadership and accusing Vanity Fair of bias by omission. Musk has not yet commented on the piece.
