Fermin Aldeguer Makes History in Indonesia
20-year-old Fermin Aldeguer showcased remarkable skill and composure to clinch his maiden MotoGP victory. The Gresini rider overtook KTM’s Pedro Acosta on the 10th lap and steadily pulled away, finishing with a comfortable lead.
Aldeguer’s triumph comes after a near-miss in Saturday’s sprint race, where he led most of the 13-lap contest but ultimately finished second behind Marco Bezzecchi. This win cements Aldeguer as the first rookie to win a MotoGP race since Jorge Martin in 2021 and makes him the second youngest winner in the history of the championship.
Acosta secured second place, while Aldeguer’s teammate Alex Marquez completed the podium, giving Gresini Racing a memorable day in Indonesia.
Marc Marquez Injured in Early Collision
The race took a dramatic turn on lap one when Marc Marquez collided with pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi. Bezzecchi struggled off the line and, in a bid to recover positions, inadvertently clipped the rear of Marquez’s Ducati. Both riders were sent tumbling into the gravel at high speed.
Marquez, who recently celebrated his seventh MotoGP world championship, appeared to be in significant pain, clutching his shoulder as he slowly made his way off the track. Post-race reports confirmed that Marquez sustained a collarbone injury—the same shoulder affected by a previous 2020 crash—prompting him to travel to Madrid for further medical evaluation.
Despite the high-speed incident, the two riders exchanged a sportsmanlike handshake before Marquez was escorted to the medical center.
Ducati’s Tough Day Continues
The morning’s setbacks for Ducati didn’t end with Marquez’s crash. Two-time MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia also fell victim to a crash several laps later, sliding off his bike and onto the asphalt. The Italian rider, who has faced a challenging season, displayed visible frustration at his misfortune.
These incidents highlight the unpredictable nature of the Mandalika circuit, a track that has historically posed difficulties for even the most experienced riders.
