Bangladeshi

Over 54,000 Bangladeshi pilgrims have arrived in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, according to the latest update from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Religious Affairs. As of now, a total of 54,497 pilgrims have reached the Kingdom, although nine deaths have been reported during the journey so far.

Flight and Travel Arrangements

These pilgrims traveled on a total of 141 flights operated by three airlines:

  • Biman Bangladesh Airlines transported 27,378 pilgrims via 73 flights,
  • Saudia Airlines carried 18,491 pilgrims through 47 flights,
  • Flynas Airlines handled 8,628 pilgrims across 21 flights.

Pilgrims travelled through two main arrangements:

  • 4,583 pilgrims came under the government-managed Hajj scheme,
  • 49,914 pilgrims opted for private Hajj arrangements.

Hajj Timeline

The pre-Hajj flights began on April 29 and are expected to continue until May 31. Return flights will start on June 10 and continue until July 10. The Hajj pilgrimage itself is expected to take place around June 5, subject to the official moon sighting.

Registrations and Visa Status

A total of 87,100 Bangladeshis registered for Hajj in 2025. Of them:

  • 81,900 pilgrims registered through private Hajj operators,
  • 5,200 pilgrims registered under the government quota.

The ministry has confirmed that all registered pilgrims have successfully received their visas.

Deaths During the Pilgrimage

Sadly, nine Bangladeshi pilgrims have passed away during this year’s pilgrimage. The deceased include eight men and one woman. The deaths occurred in:

  • Makkah (4 deaths)
  • Madinah (5 deaths)

The most recent loss was A Hannan Mollah, a 63-year-old pilgrim from Chandpur, who passed away in Makkah on Monday. He had traveled under the government Hajj program and arrived on April 30 via Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Oversight and Coordination

This year, 70 licensed Hajj agencies, approved by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, are managing operations to ensure the safety, accommodation, and logistical needs of pilgrims. These agencies are working closely with Saudi authorities to provide essential services and address the challenges posed by the large influx of international visitors.

Additional Insights:

  • Health and Safety Measures: With thousands gathering for Hajj in high temperatures, health awareness campaigns and on-ground medical teams are more crucial than ever. Pilgrims are advised to stay hydrated, wear protective gear, and follow health advisories issued by Saudi health officials.
  • Digital Monitoring: This year has also seen an increased use of digital tools for monitoring pilgrim movement, accommodation, and emergency response. The Ministry is encouraging pilgrims to use official apps for navigation, emergency contact, and religious guidance.
  • Sustainability Focus: In recent years, Saudi Arabia has emphasized sustainable practices during Hajj, including better waste management and eco-friendly transportation. Bangladeshi pilgrims are also being encouraged to participate in these initiatives.
